Quick, long-lasting and safe - our professional laser treatments will leave you feeling like 'a new you'.

The Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is an increasingly popular method of removing unwanted hairs. It offers a number of benefits compared to traditional methods such as shaving or waxing, as it is less time consuming and more effective in the long run.

The process of laser hair removal works by using laser light to target the melanin in the hair follicles, disabling the follicles and slowing down the growth of unwanted hair. As a result, fewer hair follicles are actively producing new hairs, providing a more permanent solution.

Additionally, laser hair removal can help reduce ingrown hairs more efficiently than other hair removal methods. Your skin will regenerate and over time it becomes softer, and any appearance of dark shadow will just disappear.

Laser treatment vs IPL

When it comes to hair removal methods, it's essential to understand the difference between laser hair removal and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). While both techniques aim to reduce unwanted hair, they utilise different technologies. Laser hair removal uses a focused beam of light that targets the hair follicles, resulting in long-lasting or permanent hair reduction.

In contrast, IPL utilises broad-spectrum light that emits multiple wavelengths, which can be less precise. Laser hair removal is known for its ability to target specific areas, provide more precise results, and offer better long-term hair reduction.

Understanding hair growth and timing your appointments

Timing your laser hair removal appointments is more important than you might realise because of the hair growth cycle. Ensuring that our clients fully understand the importance of scheduling and attending their appointments is crucial for the best results.

The hair growth cycle has three stages: Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. The Anagen stage is the active growing stage, where the hair follicle is producing new hair. The Catagen stage is a transitional stage where the hair follicle stops producing new hair. Finally, the Telogen stage is the resting stage where the hair falls out, and the follicle remains dormant for a short period before starting the cycle again.

Laser hair removal is most effective on hair in the Anagen stage of growth because it is during this stage that the hair follicle is actively producing new hair and the laser can target and destroy the follicle effectively. If the hair is in the Catagen or Telogen stage, the laser will not be as effective because the hair follicle is not actively producing new hair.

We recommend booking a package treatment of a minimum of 6 sessions every 6-8 weeks to achieve up to 80-90% reduction in hair growth. It is essential to keep to the schedule for the best results. Missing an appointment or waiting too long between treatments can result in missing the Anagen stage of hair growth, meaning more treatments may be required than initially recommended.

While you may see initial thinning of the hair after the first few sessions, the best results will be achieved by completing the recommended course of treatments within the recommended timeframe. Failure to do so may result in the need for additional appointments and ultimately, a less effective treatment.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and you may need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. However, we urge you to keep to the schedule as much as possible to achieve the desired results in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Our team is always here to answer any questions you may have and ensure that you achieve the best possible results from your laser hair removal treatments.

Laser hair removal and exposure to the sun

Considering laser hair removal - get ready to think seriously about exposure to the sun.

Sun exposure before or after laser hair removal is something that is not talked about enough. You need to avoid sunbathing and sun exposure as much as possible before and after treatment. Also, if you have a tan, you’ll need to wait till it fades before you can start your treatment. The problem is that the sun makes skin more sensitive to heat, and using a laser on heat sensitive skin can cause hyper-pigmentation, burns and even scarring.

When is the best time for laser hair removal?

It might be a good idea to invest in laser hair removal procedures on areas of the body that won’t be directly exposed to sunlight for a while. Many people start their laser hair removal treatments on their legs, arms, and face in the fall or winter. So, they can be fully recovered by the summertime.

Wear sunscreen and take care of your skin

Sunscreen is an important element of everyday skincare. But when you are undergoing laser hair removal, it is extra important and absolutely necessary to use sunscreen. Applying and reapplying a broad-spectrum SPF that protects against both UVA and UVB rays daily - even on a cloudy day.

Allow time for your skin to heal

Because laser hair removal opens up your pores, skin will be extra susceptible and prone to infection following a treatment. It is very important to avoid going to the gym, sauna, jacuzzi or swimming in the ocean or pool for at least two days. After that point, it’s safe to exercise and get your sweat on. It is also important to avoid exfoliating skin for at least five days following a treatment. Give your skin time to heal.

Treating in-grown hair

In-grown hair is a condition where a hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin instead of growing out of the skin.

Some symptoms of ingrown hair are accompanied by an infection of the hair follicle area and when this happens, the area becomes irritated and sore. The infection can also lead to itching, skin rashes, and puss collecting under the skin. Ingrown hairs most commonly appear in areas where the skin is shaved or waxed (beard, legs, pubic region). Anything that causes the hair to be broken off unevenly with a sharp tip can cause ingrown hairs.

Laser hair removal is the best and only real effective choice for getting rid of ingrown hairs quickly. This is because laser hair removal goes straight to the source of the problem, the root or hair follicle. The laser treats the follicle directly, burning away the follicle's ability to produce hair.

Laser hair removal is the most effective treatment for getting rid of all unwanted hair, including ingrown. The laser destroys the follicle, which no amount of lotion or moisturiser can do. And once the follicle is dead, you won’t have to worry about any nasty little ingrown hairs popping up again.

Treating excessive hair growth

Laser hair removal can be helpful for women with excessive hair growth (hirsutism).

Excessive hair growth, medically known as hirsutism, refers to the growth of dark, coarse hair in areas where it typically doesn't occur or is less common in women. While some degree of hair growth is normal for both men and women, hirsutism is characterised by hair growth that is more prominent and extensive than expected based on an individual's age, sex, and ethnic background. It is primarily a cosmetic concern for many women and can impact self-esteem and emotional well-being.
