Skin Pigmentation

Skin pigmentation treatments

Pigmentation refers to the uneven coloration of the skin caused by an overproduction or uneven distribution of melanin, the pigment responsible for giving colour to our skin, hair, and eyes.

While some amount of pigmentation is normal, excessive pigmentation can be a cosmetic concern for many individuals. Fortunately, there are several treatments available to help reduce or manage pigmentation-related issues.

Hyperpigmentation

Also known as irregular pigmentation, Hyperpigmentation consists of unwanted dark spots and discolouration on the face, hands and body. Excess production of melanin in the skin, as well as other factors, contribute to the formation of hyperpigmentation.

Melanin production is stimulated by exposure to UV light. The condition is often aggravated by inflammation and a damaged skin barrier. The key to improving unwanted discolouration and prolonged prevention is limiting exposure to UV light and optimising the health of the skin barrier.

Treatment

N7 Laser & Beauty Clinic recommends several creams and serums from Epionce that can be used to lighten pigmentation and even out the skin tone. These products work by inhibiting the production of melanin and promoting skin cell turnover.

Common pigmentation treatment includes skin peels. Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes exfoliation and removal of the outer layer of damaged skin cells. This can help improve pigmentation issues such as sunspots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Different types of peels are available in varying strengths, and the choice depends on the specific pigmentation concern and the individual's skin type.

Laser Therapy

Laser treatment uses concentrated light energy to target and break down pigmentation in the skin. These treatments can effectively treat various pigmentation issues, including age spots, sunspots, freckles, and melasma. The energy from the laser device is absorbed by the pigmented areas, causing them to fragment and gradually fade away.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that exfoliates the skin's outermost layer using crystals or a diamond-tipped wand. While it is primarily used for skin rejuvenation and improving texture, it can also help reduce mild pigmentation issues by removing dead skin cells and promoting skin cell turnover.

Microneedling

Microneedling involves using a device with tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the skin's natural healing process and promote the production of collagen and elastin. Microneedling can help improve pigmentation issues by breaking up pigmented areas and encouraging new, healthier skin growth.

It's important to note that the effectiveness of pigmentation treatments can vary depending on the individual, the severity of the pigmentation, and the chosen treatment method. Some treatments may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results. Additionally, it is crucial to protect the skin from sun exposure and use sunscreen regularly to prevent further pigmentation and protect the skin's health.

Before undergoing any pigmentation treatment, we recommend to have a consultation where we can assess your specific concerns, recommend the most suitable treatment options and provide guidance throughout the process.
